Archipelago are a reeds/bass/drums trio from Newcastle upon Tyne. Their music fuses jazz, garage-rock and free improvisation into a fluid collage; somewhere between the fixed and the floating, exploring song forms and emotional narratives with riffs, silence, noise, grooves and improvisation. By turns lyrical, sparse, frantic or crunchingly loud, Archipelago are fast growing a reputation for their honest, engaged musicianship and compelling live performances.

Christian Alderson – Drums and percussion

John Pope – Bass Guitar

Faye MacCalman – Saxophone and Clarinet

Formed late in 2015, after working together in various projects, Archipelago spent years gigging and writing music, before releasing a debut full-length LP ‘Weightless’ in 2017. The same year the band was selected by Jazz North for the prestigious Northern Line touring scheme, leading to performances around the North of England, including an appearance at Manchester Jazz Festival. Other festival appearances have included Lancaster Jazz Festival, TUSK Festival and LUME Fest in London. They have shared bills with some of the most exciting artists in the UK and European jazz scenes, including Horse Orchestra (DK), Krokofant (Norway), Ripsaw Catfish, Binker & Moses and Arun Ghosh.
